Today is Thursday and It's West Seattle Food Bank Day

Since I shared with you a few pictures of Northwest Harvest, where I volunteer on Tuesdays and Fridays, I thought I would show you where I volunteer on Thursdays.  We can receive up to 36 boxes of produce twice during the time I'm there from 10am until 12pm.  All of the local grocery stores donate produce, flowers and bread to West Seattle Food Bank.  First picture shows part of the first shipment that has arrived.  The second picture shows how all of the produce comes to us in boxes.  It can be a real mess, with spoiled fruits and vegetables, all of which has to be sorted through.  The third picture is of me standing at the line where those who need food come and are offered an assortment of things from bags of frozen blueberries, cartons of eggs, cans of tuna, and so on.  It's always a must to treat these people with respect and dignity...after all, they could have been you or me at one point and were thriving, not needing services.  But, that's what community service is all about...extending ourselves to others in order to bring everyone closer together.
